I've lost count of how many times I've gone back to reread this piece. It's raw and honest in the best ways.

This is powerful stuff - both the musical and the personal. This one is a keeper and I appreciate your honesty more than you can imagine. And thanks for the intro to Berman

Gut wrenching and totally worth it. I have a teenage daughter and I see what social media means and does to kids her age. I don't think it's a net positive, but like you I don't see her opting out.

This one was strange. I’m a Silver Jews fan from way back (early 90’s), and seeing David invoked here was a pretty dissonant clash. How is the patron saint of “losers” going to be shoe-horned into an economics newsletter? DCB was, as noted, the son of a successful corporate lawyer, a man he hated and hated to rely on. The father bailed him out of tough economic situations early on, but Berman never could successfully wrestle that demon. I associate very strongly with him: depressed, check; bad with money, check; creatively frustrated, CHECK!

I suppose I’m circling the following question: how can someone who is good with money (i.e. you) relate with someone (i.e. him) to whom money represents the worst, anti-egalitarian tool ever invented? Conversely, what does a suicidal drug addict (him) have to teach an alpha-dog economist (you) about the way the world works? You know how it works: money. And you’ve already won. So I’m just like scratching my head. My brother in law idolizes Margaret Thatcher. Now THAT make sense! Respectfully, because obviously I do read you and hope to gain some insights from you.

Doomberg you are a true renaissance man, or should I say, renaissance chicken. All kidding aside though, amazing article. I will have to throw on Purple Mountains and check it out. As a fairly new father of two sons, the 'not done being my mother's son' part hit me hard!

Congratulations on being on Grant Williams, with how often you've mentioned him I'm sure it was a big deal for you to be on there.

Now that you're up there with the big guys, we can say, "We read and knew Doomberg before Grant Williams and Jesse Felder blew him up."

This was a really good piece for a lot of reasons and I’m glad you wrote it. I’ve ramped up some of my own stuff in the last month or so and I’ve had to remind myself a couple times that I don’t need to respond to everyone. Especially those who are clearly trolling. It can be challenging to find that balance between engaging with people to genuinely build a relationship with readers and ignoring the noise. This has been helpful though. Cheers. I’m gonna check out Purple Mountains now too

David B. sounds familiar to Aztec Camera, one of my favorite alternative indie bands. They took Van Halen’s “Jump” and completely reversed the intent of the song to a dark place. Brilliant stuff. I will give Purple Mountains a listen, based on your feedback, and see where it takes me, since I too have journeyed from my own darkness to the light several times in my past. Thanks for the great read El Pollo.

I appreciate this piece because it's the same 'in between' content that provides universal perspective (similar to that Rolex detail that gave you behind the scene insight of supply chains). As for shifting to an internal drum, I share the same outlook as you've described, along with similar estranged father scenario. In fact, just a few weeks ago I've connected to him for the first time and it laid so much to rest. I'm a bit of a financial black sheep in my family, and it turns out he runs money out of Auz! All of this is to say that I greatly appreciate how you tie it all together into great content that reminds people it's not too late to start marching.

I listened to the Grant Williams podcast yesterday, and it has given me greater appreciation of your emails, most of which I have read. Your analysis of the big picture, and the direction in which we are being guided (I should say misguided) seems to me to be right on target. The investment implications are fascinating to contemplate. You may count on me once your paywall is established. Many thanks.

Doomberg, Reading this essay was poignant, difficult and disheartening. The only thing I can say is Thank you. Thank you for teaching me something new with every article. Thank you for making me think in a new and unexpected way. Thank you for allowing me to peer just a tiny bit into your World. But, most of all, Thank you for letting me know that there are still intelligent people on this Planet who aren't giving up, who don't and won't quit and who strive to make the World a better place for everyone... Thank you.
