I read the article about secondary sanctions and thoughtlessly agreed, this time for sure. Thank you for snapping me awake. It must be because they work so well in theory that we’re willing to ignore their failure in practice.
In March 2022 in "On the cusp of an economic singularity" you predicted a big bang, an economic crisis like no other crisis before it. It spurred my interest. I became a subscriber and remained one, quite contentedly so. Fortunately the singularity did not come and you did not write much about it since. In the spirit of this piece: was that prediction wrong or do you think the economic big bang is on its way and we only have to wait and see?
I only have things I noted. To me with environmental degradation and grabbing the easy stuff the fight to overcome entropy will become more energy intensive
For example it’s risky to drink tap water in USA as may contain a myriad of chemicals
So say drink distilled water. That takes energy to distillation
Fertility is collapsing amongst humans
Then need in vitro or no kids
And some people created a program at MiT that predicted heating on planet in the 1970s
Apparently that programs predictions have been correct
And it predicts civilization collapse by 2040 nice
Frankly I am skepticism of such things but is has been correct so far
China and India may well run out of fresh water
Desalination that requires energy
So I agree with Doomberg that energy consumption will grow
